Team Lead Mechanical Design (m/f/d)

Permanent employee, Full-time · München

The Role

We’re looking for a driven and experienced Team Lead Mechanical Design (m/f/d) to lead the mechanical development of our next-generation Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) platforms. In this leadership role, you'll own the mechanical system architecture and guide a cross-functional team through the full product lifecycle—from early concepts through prototyping, testing, and industrialization. You’ll work hands-on in design while mentoring and managing an engineering team ensuring robust, innovative solutions that meet the demands of real-world off-road applications.

If you're passionate about mechanical systems, vehicle design, and leading teams in a fast-paced environment, this is the opportunity to shape the future of mobile robotics.

To join our team, you should be excited to
  • Lead and grow a team of 3–5 mechanical design engineers; provide mentorship, conduct design reviews, and manage workload planning
  • Own the platform-level mechanical architecture for electric off-road UGVs, balancing performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost
  • Translate high-level system requirements into detailed mechanical requirements and verification plans
  • Drive concept development, detailed CAD design using Autodesk Inventor, and bill of materials (BOM) ownership; manage data using Autodesk Vault
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, software, and systems teams to integrate key subsystems such as powertrain, battery, harnessing, and compute modules
  • Plan and conduct design reviews; lead FMEA and coordinate risk mitigation throughout the development lifecycle
  • Coordinate prototype builds, including fixture and tooling definition; support system bring-up and field testing
  • Establish and maintain mechanical design standards, CAD templates, and libraries to ensure consistent and high-quality execution
  • Own project timelines, manage interdependencies, and ensure clear communication across teams; report status, progress, and risks to engineering leadership

Your Profile

  • Proven experience in mechanical design for automotive, robotics, or special machinery applications
  • Demonstrated team leadership and people management skills, ideally leading a team of 3–5 engineers
  • Proficient with Autodesk Inventor (especially advanced assemblies) and Autodesk Vault (or comparable CAD/PDM systems)
  • Extensive experience across the full product development lifecycle, including requirements, concept, design, validation, and release
  • Solid knowledge of manufacturing processes, such as machining, sheet metal, composites, welding, and casting
  • Strong ability to collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, software, systems, and testing teams in complex development projects
  • Strong team player who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative, and problem-solving startup environment
  • Proactive and hands-on; willing to take ownership, work independently, and solve real-world engineering challenges
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken
Benefits and Perks
  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • A shaping role in an emerging dual use company
  • Opportunity to work with a highly innovative, international, and dynamic team
  • Room for professional growth and development
  • Participation in the company's success, with access to regular events, knowledge exchange and meetups
